La communauté MedCamer a appris avec désarroi l’incendie dont a été victime l’Hôpital de District de Kumba la nuit du 10 au 11 février 2019.
Cette catastrophe a emporté deux citoyens camerounais malades, brûlés dans leur lit ; détruit entièrement cinq services dont le bloc opératoire et le quartier des médecins, avec tous les outils de travail et le mobilier. D’autres pertes matérielles ont été déplorées. La relocalisation des malades a dû être organisée avec les véhicules des autorités administratives, l’ambulance de l’HD Kumba ayant déjà été incendiée en octobre 2018. Ce triste évènement laisse sous le choc les nombreux malades survivants et les 80 membres du
personnel, tous traumatisés et inquiets pour leur sécurité et leur vie. Tout cela dans un contexte de « Ghost Town » évoluant depuis plusieurs jours.
MedCamer se fait le porte-parole des médecins du Cameroun, pour présenter ses sincères condoléances aux familles des deux disparus lors de cet incendie, et apporter son soutien psychologique et technique à l’ensemble des survivants et au staff de l’HD Kumba.

Si cet acte s’avère d’origine humaine délibérée, MedCamer le condamne vivement. Quelles qu’en soient les raisons et les motivations, rien ne justifierait que soient ainsi attaqués des services qui n’ont vocation qu’à apporter aide et soins A TOUS, SANS EXCEPTION. Les structures de santé sont par essence et par excellence humanitaires, impartiales et non
partisanes. Le corps soignant qui a fait sienne cette assertion de Louis Pasteur : « Peu importe qui tu es, peu importe d’où tu viens, tu es malade, cela me suffit », ne devrait en aucun cas en retour être pris pour cible par qui que ce soit pour quoi que ce soit.

En renouvelant notre soutien à toutes les personnes touchées de près ou de loin, Nous souhaitons de tout coeur ne plus voir se survenir de tels évènements dans un établissement sanitaire ni nulle part ailleurs au Cameroun.

It is with dismay that the MedCamer community learned the fire outbreak at the Kumba district hospital during the night of the 10th to the 11th of February 2019. This disaster took the life of two sick Cameroonian citizens, burned in their beds; completely destroyed five units including the operating room and the doctors’ ward, with all their work tools and furniture. Other material losses have been reported. The relocation of the patients had to be organized with the vehicles of the administrative authorities, the ambulance of the Kumba District Hospital having already been burned in October 2018.

This sad event leaves many surviving patients and 80 staff members, all traumatized and worried for their safety and their lives. All this in a context of «Ghost Town» which has been going on for several days.

On behalf of the entire community of Cameroon medical doctors, MedCamer presents her heartfelt condolences to the families of the two who died in the fire, and offers her psychological and technical support to all the survivors and to the staff of the Kumba District Hospital.
If this act is of deliberate human origin, MedCamer strongly condemns it. Regardless of the reasons and motives, there would be no justification for the attack on services which are only intended to provide help and care to ALL, WITHOUT EXCEPTION. Health structures are essentially humanitarian, impartial and non-partisan. The medical corps that adopted this Louis Pasteur’s assertion “No matter who you are, no matter where you come from, you are sick and it is enough for me”, should not be targeted by anyone for anything in return.

By renewing our support to all those directly or indirectly affected, we sincerely hope that such events will no longer occur in a health facility or anywhere else in Cameroon.
